Summer Splash Grades 1-5

Summer SPLASH is a summer enrichment program for incoming students in grades K-5. We offer fun learning opportunities grounded in the skills and topics within our curriculum frameworks aligned to the grade level(s) audience for each course. The theme of our Summer SPLASH program is STEM, Play, Literacy, Arts, Social-emotional, and Health, which are also grounded in our guiding principles of well-being, relationships, and learning. 

Policies and Procedures

Summer SPLASH is a summer enrichment program offered through the Middleborough Public Schools. As such, Summer SPLASH students are expected to adhere to the expectations for student behavior, dress, and participation outlined in the student handbook for kindergarten through fifth grade.

Henry B. Burkland Elementary School

For arrival and dismissal, please enter the property from the rear driveway, which is located directly across the street from Hannafords Plaza on Route 28 (East Grove Street).

Arrival at HBB

• All vehicles will enter and exit from the rear driveway on Route 28. 

• Students must remain in their car until a staff member instructs the child to leave the car to walk into the gym at 9:30 AM. Look for the 2 orange cones to pull between.

Dismissal at HBB

• All vehicles will enter and exit from the rear driveway on Route 28. 

• All vehicles will park in the rear of the gym to pick up their child. There will be a tented area to sign out your student.

• Students will only be dismissed to the parent/guardian listed on the program registration form. 

• Parents/guardians should be prepared to show identification upon picking up their child(ren). 

• Dismissal begins at 11:15AM and ends at 11:30AM.

Program Schedule

Summer SPLASH 2024 is a two-week program that runs Mondays through Thursdays from 

9:30 AM - 11:30 AM.

Week 1: July 8-11

Week 2: July 15-18

Attendance

Attendance will be taken each morning. It is important that Summer SPLASH has up-to-date information for the safety of all students who have registered for the camp.  If a student will not be attending camp on any given day, please call the Burkland school at (508) 946-2040 or rhoward@middleboro.k12.ma.us and ask for Rachel Howard, Program Coordinator.

Camp Preparation

Please send your student to camp with a small cinch bag or backpack containing the following in case of outdoor classes and events:

• Sunscreen

• Water bottle

• Bug Spray

Registration Dates

May 12, 2024 - June 7, 2024

Enrollment is only for incoming Middleboro students at the Mary K. Goode and Burkland schools. Registration will be sent home via the Tuesday folder and is available in the main offices of HBB, MKG, and MECC.

Summer Splash Registration Form 

Deadline

Registration for the program is through a lottery system that will be drawn at the close of the school day on June 7, 2024. Late registration will NOT be accepted. Registration officially closes at 3:30PM on June 7.

Submitting Registration

All registration should be submitted along with payment by Friday, June 7, 2024. Please complete the registration form (including parent/guardian signature) and send full payment in an envelope labeled SUMMER SPLASH to the school. Please note that a child is not fully registered until payment is received. Payment must be made in the form of a bank check or money order. NO personal checks or cash will be accepted. Summer Splash must have complete contact and emergency information, including parent/guardian signatures, in order for each student to participate in the program. Incomplete registration forms will not be accepted and will be returned. Enrollment confirmation will be sent home no later than Tuesday, June 11, 2024. Summer Splash reserves the right to cancel or combine classes for any reason. If a class is canceled, you will be notified and your payment will be returned.

Payment

Payments can be made by bank check or money order made payable to Middleboro Public Schools. All bank checks and money orders must be signed. Please write your student’s name in the memo line and submit it in an envelope with your registration form addressed to Summer Splash. All classes must be paid in full at the time of registration.

Scholarship

Summer Splash offers financial support to eligible families. Please indicate on the registration form if you would like to be considered for financial aid. Submit a check only if you plan to enroll your student in classes, even if financial aid is not granted. If financial aid is granted, your payment will be refunded.

Refunds

No refunds will be given after the last day of the registration period unless a class is canceled.

Class Offerings for Summer Splash 2024

We are proud to announce the selection of this year’s Summer Splash program. Below is a list of offerings. The programs will start at 9:30 AM and run until 11:30 AM. Families must pick up students in the rear of the Henry B. Burkland School by 11:30 AM.

The cost of each week is $50 per student. A limited number of scholarships are available for those who need them. Please check the box on the registration form for scholarship consideration. Please make bank checks or money orders payable to “Middleborough Public Schools.”

Hanging w/ Harry	3-5	Are you a Harry Potter fan? Join other Potterheads obsessed with JK Rowling’s amazing series. Explore your favorite quotes, listen to music from the movies, make lightning bolt bookmarks, and experiment with Harry Potter STEM activities.	Mrs. Penney	2
Scrapbooking	3-5	Do you want to preserve your favorite memories? Do you want to be able to see your pictures of special times in one easy location? If so, join me for scrapbooking, where you will make mini albums with your pictures and journaling.	Mrs. Kuktez	1+2
Nature Explorers	1-3	Let’s get messy, play in the dirt, and let kids be kids! This program is designed for kids who are passionate about the great outdoors. Being outside is important to kids' development, confidence, creativity, and strong muscles. Students will create enchanting fairy/troll gardens, interact with animals and insects, and participate in hands-on activities and exploration. Rain or shine, we'll be outside! Simple Crafts	1-3	Let’s have some fun this summer creating daily crafts. There is something for everyone to enjoy! You can paint, glue, cut, color, and more to create your own masterpieces. We will also enjoy a read-aloud to accompany the craft of the day.	Mrs. Bettencourt	1+2
Under the Sea Crafts and Exploration	1-2	Do you like exploring what lives under the sea? We will be doing under-the-sea crafts, STEM projects, and reading about all things under the sea. Come and explore!	Mrs. Johnson	1
Let’s go Birding!	1-5	Do you enjoy watching birds in their natural environment and want to learn more about them? We will spend time bird watching, researching birds native to Middleboro, creating a field journal, and illustrating birds we see!	Mrs. Ward	2
Exploring Chemistry	4+5	Chemistry is a branch of science that deals with chemical elements and compounds and how they work together. In Exploring Chemistry, students will be introduced to lab safety practices, physical vs. chemical changes, practice using scientific instruments, and an elephant toothpaste lab!	Mrs. Bowley	1+2
Stories and STEAM	1	This class will focus on the 5 components of STEAM:  science, technology, engineering, art, and math.  We will start each session with a quick story and an awesome STEAM activity.  Some activities may include making a magic caterpillar, creating a hex bug maze, building a dream house, and more! Discovering Disney	1-4	Do you love Disney? Let's get together and explore the world of Disney. We will take virtual field trips, dive into the art and animation behind the scenes, write our own endings to some of our favorite Disney stories, and so much more! Superhero Training Camp	2-4	Do you have what it takes to be a Superhero? Students will transform into superheroes in this class by creating their hero names, powers, masks, and comic books. Superheroes also need action training, so we will test our speed, strength, teamwork skills, and more. Finally, we must power our brains through science experiments and minute-to-win-it challenges! Baton Twirling	1-5	Students will learn the basic skills of baton twirling. Twirling is great for developing agility, grace, flexibility, and hand-eye coordination.	Mrs. Anderson  +  Ms. Frawley
Design and Build	3-5	Learn how to build with Mrs. Ruscher! We will design, create, and build small objects using different tools. We will learn safety around tools, how to design and plan before building and have fun working with our hands	Mrs. Ruscher	1+2
Yoga for Kids	1-3	Join me on the mat for some yoga for kids! This will include physical postures especially designed for our littles. We will practice seated meditations to calm and clear the mind and meditation walks. We will explore art projects that provide a healthy outlet for expressing emotions. Glass Art	3-5	Do you enjoy creating using your hands and imagination? Want to wow your family and friends? Come join in on the fun as we make unique, one-of-a-kind projects and explore the art techniques of fused glass and mosaics.
