Middleboro High School Student Receives MIAA Student-Athlete of the Month Award
Franklin, MA – Josh Young, a senior at Middleboro High School, has been selected as the recipient of the “MIAA Student-Athlete of the Month Award" for April 2019. Josh is held in high esteem by his peers, teachers, coaches, teammates and community members and has been described as the “ultimate team player”. He is a two-sport athlete who participates in soccer and basketball and earned the respect of his peers and coaches to be named captain of both teams his senior year. Though the teams Josh has been a part of this year did not accrue great records, it was through his leadership that the players bonded together and worked incredibly hard. Josh is a leader by example. He “always arrives early, works hard, and stays late” and he is dependable, loyal and accountable. Josh always found ways to be “upbeat, helpful and contribute to the ongoing efforts of the team or school to improve and take the next step forward toward growth and success.” Through Josh’s leadership the culture of the teams and school have been positively impacted.
Josh brings the same intense work ethic found in the athletic arena to the classroom. His work ethic and consistent effort is evident in the quality work assignments he produces and his thoughtful classroom participation. Josh holds a solid 3.78 grade point average in his college prep courses which has provided a solid foundation for his next academic chapter at the University of New Hampshire in the fall. Through his dedication and commitment to academics and his overall involvement in the school and community, Josh was inducted into the National Honor Society and was then elected by his peers this year to be President of the Chapter.
In addition to being President of National Honor Society, Josh is also a member of the school’s History Honor Society and the Foreign Language Honor Society. He was selected to represent Middleboro at Boys’ State and was selected to be a MIAA Ambassador. Josh volunteers his time supporting and helping out at the Pan Mass Challenge, basketball camps, making sandwiches for the homeless through his church and is a member of the Start Strong Program at Middleboro High School. The Start Strong Program assists incoming freshmen to get off on the right foot in high school providing guidance, support and a shoulder to lean on when needed.
