Reduce Google Classroom Email Notifications

If your inbox is filling up with Google Classroom emails, you can easily customize or turn off notifications while still accessing all of your assignments in Google Classroom.

Option 1: Turn Off All Google Classroom Emails

  1. Go to classroom.google.com and sign in with your school Google account.
  2. Click the ☰ Menu (three lines) in the top-left corner.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Find Allow email notifications.
  5. Toggle the switch Off.

Note: You'll still be able to see assignments, announcements, and grades by logging into Google Classroom. Some important system emails may still be sent by Google. (Google Help)

Option 2: Choose Which Emails You Receive

If you don't want to turn everything off, you can choose which notifications you receive.

  1. Open Google Classroom.
  2. Click ☰ Menu > Settings.
  3. Leave Allow email notifications turned On.
  4. Turn off the notifications you don't want, such as:
    • Work and announcements from teachers
    • Comments on your posts
    • Comments that mention you
    • Private comments
    • Due date reminders
    • Invitations to join classes

This lets you keep only the notifications that are most important to you. (Google Help)

Option 3: Turn Off Notifications for Just One Class

If one class sends more notifications than the others, you can turn off notifications for only that class.

  1. Open Google Classroom.
  2. Click ☰ Menu > Settings.
  3. Make sure Allow email notifications is turned On.
  4. Under Class notifications, expand the list of your classes.
  5. Turn Off notifications for the class you don't want emails from.

You'll continue to receive notifications for your other classes. (Google Help)

Remember

Turning off email notifications does not remove you from a class or stop assignments from being posted. You are still responsible for checking Google Classroom regularly to complete assignments, read announcements, and submit your work on time.
