Superintendent Search Updates

School Committee Next Steps Survey

The School Committee is gathering feedback from families, students, and staff about the timeline for selecting the next Superintendent of Schools.
April is often when districts are hiring, rather than when superintendent positions are first posted. School districts across Massachusetts typically begins superintendent searches in September or October.
The district currently has an Acting Superintendent Michael Perrone who is serving as the Director of Business and Finance as well as Acting Superintendent. The School Committee needs to consider these two options for the next phase of leadership under the current timeline.

Things to Consider:

Option 1: Accelerated Superintendent Search

  • Process would begin immediately
  • Permanent leadership begins August 1, 2026
  • Ability to begin new initiatives in the upcoming school year
  • Complex reconfiguration discussion could begin sooner
  • Potentially smaller pool of candidates and less time to vet candidates.
  • Complete Option 1 Timeline

Option 2: Interim Superintendent for 1 year + Launch Search for new Superintendent in the Fall:

  • Formal Superintendent search would begin early fall.
  • A larger candidate pool
  • Potentially stronger candidates due to the timing of the search process
  • A more standard timeline to allow for more deliberate search process and in depth consideration
  • Potentially delaying major decision making with long term goals for one year
  • Complete Option 2 Timeline

If both searches are conducted there is no additional cost under the agreement currently in place with Massachusetts Association of School Committees (MASC) with either option.

Your feedback will help the School Committee understand community preferences as it determines the best path forward for the district.

Please complete the survey so that the School Committee can review the data. This form will close at 4pm on Friday, April 17, 2026
