The public schools of Middleborough serves 3,200 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12. Students attend the Memorial Early Childhood Center in grades PreK through Kindergarten, Mary K. Goode Elementary School or the Hery B. Burkland School in grades 1 through 5, John T. Nichols Middle School in grades 6 through 8 and Middleborough High School in grades 9 through 12. Approximately 600 teachers, support staff, and administrators serve our student population by providing quality instructional programs.
One of our strategic goals is increased and effective communication with our school community. The new website is one of many tools we have instituted to achieve our communication goals. Mrs. Carolyn J. Lyons, J.D.
Carolyn Lyons was chosen to lead the Middleborough Public Schools as Superintendent in March of 2022 and officially began her tenure on July 1, 2022.
Superintendent Lyons joined Middleborough Public Schools in 2012 as the Secondary Special Education Team Facilitator for grades 6-12. In 2016, she became the Director of Pupil Personnel Services, a role she held until her appointment as Superintendent.
Prior to joining the Middleborough administration, Lyons practiced education law with the firm of Murphy, Hesse, Toomey, and Lehane, LLP. With a focus on special education law, Lyons assisted in the representation of school districts across Massachusetts - including Middleborough.
Lyons graduated cum laude from Smith College where she earned a bachelor’s degree in government and economics. She earned her Doctor of Jurisprudence from Suffolk University Law School in 2007.
Superintendent Lyons currently resides in Foxborough with her husband, Randall. They are the proud parents of two children, Grady and Scarlett.
