                                                     Music News----September

    Welcome to Music Class

Hello to all of my new Pre-K and Kindergarten students.

    Welcome to MECC!

What Will  We Be Doing in Music this Year?

Music class will be filled many activities in singing, dancing, playing instruments, acting, listening to music and talking about music. We'll use our voices to become stronger more confident singers, while we will learn lots of folk songs and traditional singing games. Sometimes we'll look at books and poems together and make them come alive with music and puppets. Also, there will be many opportunities to play classroom instruments like drums, shakers, xylophones, tambourines and triangles. These instruments will be used to play a beat, improvise sound effects or add a special rhythmic part to a song. Also, we will explore how to use our bodies to move and dance to many kinds of music.  Later in the year, we will perform our own show for ourfamilies on the MECC stage. Its going to be a super, fantastic year!!!!

Students will get the first report card at the end of Trimester 1 in December.  For music, they will be graded on their progress in singing and instrument playing. Participation is a major part of our singing grade, since it is through regular performance and practice that we progress as musicians. Using appropriate instrument manners, listening and following directions are all important factors in the instrument grade.  For the following two report cards, students will also be graded on to "Responding to Music," which measures their ability to talk like a musician and act like a musician in the classroom and on stage.

Also students will recieve a separate grade for behavior in music class.  This grade reports a student's progress in showing expected behaviors and following classroom rules and routines.  Students are expected to work and play safely, treat other students with kindness, and follow teacher directions.

    September Themes

Kindergarten musicians will be working on a theme unit

called "Songs We Know."  Students will begin the year

    singing songs such as:

    The Wheels on the Bus

    Mary Had Little Lamb

    Mulberry Bush

    The More We Get Together

    Old MacDonald Had a Farm.

    We will use these

children's classics in new ways to encourage

participation and learn how to use and share classroom

instruments.  We will also be drumming along to a name

song and exploring different musical tempos (speeds),

sound and silence and loud and soft  with movement.

    featured poems this month are:

    There Was A Little Turtle,

    and Apple Tree,

    Song Lyrics for September

    Hello Hello

    (The Name Song)

    Hello ,

    Hello and how are you?

       I’m fine.

    I’m fine

I hope that you are too!

    What’s your name?

    You’re name is………………

    Mary Had a Little lamb

                       Mary had a little lamb,
    It's fleece was white as snow;

    And everywhere that Mary went
The lamb was sure to go.

He followed her to school one day
    Which was against the rule;

It made the children laugh and play,
To see a lamb at school.

     Apple Tree

I climbed up the apple tree.

All the apples fell on me.

    Apple pudding, apple pie

Did you ever tell a lie?

    Mulberry Bush

Chorus   Here we go ‘round the mulberry bush,

The mulberry bush, the mulberry bush,

Here we go ‘round the mulberry bush,

      So early in the morning.

Verse 1  This is the way we wash our face,

Wash our face, wash our face.

This is the way we wash our face

    So early in the morning

    The More We Get Together

    The more we get together,

    The more we get together,

                     The happier we’ll be.

For your friends are my friends,

And my friends are your friends.

        The more we get together,

         The happier we'll be.

( Change "get" to sing, play, clap , jump, stomp, dance, walk)

    The Wheels on The Bus

The wheels on the bus go round and round
    Round and round
    Round and round
The wheels on the bus go round and round
    All 'round the town
The wipers on the bus go swish, swish, swish
    Swish, swish, swish
    Swish, swish, swish
The wipers on the bus go swish, swish, swish
    All 'round the town
The driver on the bus goes 'move on back'
    Move on back
    Move on back
The driver on the bus goes 'move on back'
    All 'round the town
The people on the bus go up and down
    Up and down
    Up and down
The people on the bus go up and down
    All 'round the town
The horn on the bus goes beep, beep, beep
    Beep, beep, beep
    Beep, beep, beep
The horn on the bus goes beep, beep, beep
