                                                     Music News----September

                                                                              Welcome to Music Class

Hello to all of my new Pre-K and Kindergarten students.

    Welcome to MECC!

We are going to have a fantastic year together.

I can't wait to get started.  Best of Luck for a great start to the year!

What Will  We Be Doing in Music this Year?

Music class will be filled many activities in singing, dancing, playing instruments, acting, listening to and talking about music. We will use our voices to become stronger more confident singers.  Also, we will learn lots of folk songs, singing games and

Sometimes we will use puppets and other props and read music books toghether. I love to readand share my favorite books, so you can expect lots of lessons where we make a story come alive with music and acting. Also,

the rhythm and beat of poems make them very musical, so we will use poetry andnursery rhymes in class a whole lot this year

throughout the year, we will play classroom instruments like drums, shakers, xylophones, tambourines and triangles. We'll

use these instruments to play a beat, improvise sound effects or add a special rhythmic part to a song.  Also, we will watch video

performances of expert singers and instrument players. Later in the year, we will perform our own show for our

families on the MECC stage. Its going to be an awesome, amazing, super, fantastic year!!!!

Students will be graded on their progress in singing, instrument playing,  and musicianship ( vocab, audience and rehearsal

skills, ability to describe musical concepts, paper assignments and so on) .  This is a combined skills grade.

Also students will recieve a separate grade for behavior during class.

Participation is the key to success in music classs!

                                    September Themes

Kindergarten musicians will be working on a theme unit

called "Songs We Know."  Students will begin the year

singing songs such as: The Wheels on the Bus, Mary Had a

Little Lamb, Mulberry Bush,  The More We Get Together,

and Old MacDonald Had a Farm.  We will re-visit these

children's classics and use them in new ways to encourage

participation and learn how to use and share classroom

instruments.  We will also be drumming along to a name

song and exploring different musical tempos (speeds),

sound and silence and loud and soft  with movement.  Our

featured poems this month are There Was A Little Turtle,

and Apple Tree, which we will bring to life by rapping and

    learning choreographed hand movements.

    Song Lyrics for September

    Hello Hello

    (The Name Song)

    Hello ,

    Hello and how are you?

       I’m fine.

    I’m fine

I hope that you are too!

    What’s your name?

    You’re name is………………

    Mary Had a Little lamb

                       Mary had a little lamb,
    It's fleece was white as snow;

    And everywhere that Mary went
The lamb was sure to go.

He followed her to school one day
    Which was against the rule;

It made the children laugh and play,
To see a lamb at school.

     Apple Tree

I climbed up the apple tree.

All the apples fell on me.

    Apple pudding, apple pie

Did you ever tell a lie?

    Mulberry Bush

Chorus   Here we go ‘round the mulberry bush,

The mulberry bush, the mulberry bush,

Here we go ‘round the mulberry bush,

      So early in the morning.

Verse 1  This is the way we wash our face,

Wash our face, wash our face.

This is the way we wash our face

    So early in the morning

    The More We Get Together

    The more we get together,

    The more we get together,

                     The happier we’ll be.

For your friends are my friends,

And my friends are your friends.

        The more we get together,

         The happier we'll be.

( Change "get" to sing, play, clap , jump, stomp, dance, walk)

    The Wheels on The Bus

The wheels on the bus go round and round
    Round and round
    Round and round
The wheels on the bus go round and round
    All 'round the town
The wipers on the bus go swish, swish, swish
    Swish, swish, swish
    Swish, swish, swish
The wipers on the bus go swish, swish, swish
    All 'round the town
The driver on the bus goes 'move on back'
    Move on back
    Move on back
The driver on the bus goes 'move on back'
    All 'round the town
The people on the bus go up and down
    Up and down
    Up and down
The people on the bus go up and down
    All 'round the town
The horn on the bus goes beep, beep, beep
    Beep, beep, beep
    Beep, beep, beep
The horn on the bus goes beep, beep, beep
