In September we spend a great deal of time exploring math manipulatives.
We then begin to practice understanding the numbers 1-10 by counting, identifying and writing the numbers.
We play games, engage in activities and worksheets to help us solidify our skills.
We explore the concept that no matter how objects are arranged, they are still that number.
We engage in counting in a variety of ways: moving items, touching as we count, counting with our eyes, crossing out as we count, etc.
We also practice something called subitizing...which is instantly recognizing an arrangement of items.
