Welcome to the Henry B. Burkland Elementary School

The mission of the Middleborough Public Schools is to prepare all students
to excel as educated, responsible, global citizens.

This is the inaugural year at the Burkland School, we will begin educating grades one through five. because this is our first year as a school community we will be creating our own mission statement and vision. We will ask all members of the community to join us in this effort. In collaboration with the other elementary schools (i.e. Memorial Early Childhood Center, Mary K. Goode School), the Nichols Middle School, and Middleborough High School, our efforts will be towards providing a consistent supportive environment for our youngsters.

The Burkland School currently houses approximately seven hundred students in grades one, two, three, four, and five. With six classes in grades one and two. There are five classes in each grade for grades three through five. Our teachers will provide a variety of teaching/learning experiences to our students. The elementary schools have successfully implemented Inclusion Classes where students work directly with teachers in both Special Education and Elementary Education. Our Title One Program serves a number of children in the areas of Reading, Language Arts, and Mathematics. We will be spending the first thirty minutes of the day responding to students' needs through Response to Intervention. this program give intensive support for students in grades one through three. This will also give teachers a chance to help students in grades four and five meet the needs of their students as well. The school has a brand new computer lab and technology is found in every classroom.  Our students are exposed to programs beyond the traditional academic expectations. Students participate in Band, Recorders, General Music, Art, and Physical Education (including Aquatics and Health) on a scheduled basis.

Most importantly, the Burkland School is part of a unified school system. This is not only evident as students develop through their intellectual, physical, social, emotional, and creative stages, but also through the ongoing parental/community support that is found through various organizations. At the elementary level, we are fortunate to have the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) assisting us in program planning, fundraising, beautification, and a number of other events.
